It was another 10 minutes until our waiter took our food order, and not once did anyone ask us if we'd like something other than water to drink. There's a Sports Bar in the ship's Sportplex, but I never saw it open, even when the area was crowded. Three bars (Atmosphere Bar North, Atmosphere Bar South and Bamboo Bar) by the main Atmosphere Pool serve up classic umbrella drinks, as well as beer and other libations. You spend half your night lining up for drinks and can’t get for anyone else in your party most of the time (sometimes it’s ok). Very few tables about too so you lose your seat if you get up to get a drink…Unless you pay extra, won’t get out anywhere near others in your group.
You'll likely end up paying a lot more than you originally planned because some of the most enticing things to do come with added fees. And, as my travel companion so succinctly put it, I've never been told "no" so many times on a cruise. MSC Seaside deck plans are well designed, with separate levels for public spaces and staterooms.
Non-steak mains consist of roasted chicken, scallops Benedict, halibut and sockeye salmon. Kaito also has a separate sushi bar with an a la carte selection of sushi, sashimi, nigiri, tataki, yakitori and other items, including combo platters and desserts. You can pay a la carte if you're in the mood for something light or go with the all-you-can-eat option if you've worked up a serious appetite. It comes out hot and fresh, and it's available by the slice in several types from two separate counters in the buffet. There's at least one bar in every public space, so you won't have to go far to whet your whistle. Overall, I found my Yacht Club experience to be a great way to escape when other areas of the ship felt overwhelming, which they often did.
I did find the closets' location in a small enclave that led to the bathroom a bit awkward. The room was furnished with a king-size bed that converts into two twins on request, a couch and a desk/vanity area. It featured a closet and cabinet space for storage and an en suite bathroom. "You mean I can't take this out to my kid?" the guy asked in shock. The crew member told him he would have to go to the pool, get his son, bring him inside and have him pick out the dessert, which he grudgingly did. The feeling of overcrowding was exacerbated by service inconveniences like long waits for drinks, meals and elevators.
Finally, MSC has "Experience" packages you can apply to your reservation. There are plenty of opportunities to make new friends from all over the world, with anywhere from 50 percent and up of your fellow passengers from outside of North America. You must be 21 to consume alcohol on MSC Meraviglia's sailings from the U.S. Be warned that plans are tied to specific devices, and you cannot switch between them.
The area was home to a pool, a hot tub, tons of seating, solarium access and a daily outdoor buffet at the Yacht Club Grill. Although the food looked tasty, it was, unfortunately, often surrounded by flies. Specialty coffee from the onboard chocolate shop also isn't included with the packages, nor are coffees on private island Ocean Cay, which leads me to my next head-scratcher. I had the single best coffee drink of my life when we called on Ocean Cay.

The crisis coordinator for Costa Crociere was involved in the aftermath of the shipwreck, coordinating response efforts and communication in the midst of the tragic events surrounding the Costa Concordia. The Costa Concordia tragedy occurred on January 13, 2012, when the cruise liner struck a reef and began to sink. My involvement in the Costa Concordia scrapping process allowed me to witness first-hand the sophistication and the scale of operations required to counteract the damage.
Yet, from the depths of despair, the strength of the human spirit has shone brightly, reminding us of the power of unity in the face of disaster. Per transcripts released by the Washington Post, Captain Schettino confirmed abandoning ship while rescue efforts were ongoing, breaking the maritime tradition of the captain going down with the ship and leaving hundreds of passengers onboard. Evacuation efforts via lifeboats were hindered due to the list of the ship, and many passengers were rescued by boats and helicopters deployed by the coast guard, as the ship's 20 degree list made it difficult to launch lifeboats.

Schettino argued that he fell into a lifeboat because of how the ship was listing to one side, but this argument proved unconvincing. Parbuckling is a centuries-old method that winches a sunken or listing ship upright while it is anchored at a pivot point known as the “deadman.” Sounds simple, right? To hoist it, nine enormous rectangular compartments, called sponsons, will be bolted to the ship, each equipped with a hydraulic pulley; the pulleys lead to 36 steel cables as thick as lampposts that attach to six underwater platforms. NASA said it agrees with an independent review board that concluded the project could cost up to $11 billion without major changes.
The 10th anniversary is also recalling how the residents of Giglio took in the 4,200 surviving passengers and crew, giving them food, blankets and a place to rest until day broke and they were ferried to the mainland.
